District 11 - Alban/French River - Restoule/Nipissing

I'm Fraz.
I'm 46 and have been riding off/on trail for over 20 years.
I ride a 2006 SDI Renegade with a Summit 144x16x2 track and gears.

I'm looking to ride off/on trail with other expereanced (30-55 year old) riders in the area.

I have a camp on the South shore of Lake Nipissing, near Campbell's Bay and the head of the French R.

I also ride out of the Owls Nest Lodge near Alban, just North of the French River.

I prefer to ride/explore off trail on old bush roads, hydro corridors, and shore lines rather than groomed OFSC trails.
I'll often use the OFSC trails as access to explore the non-OFSC trails that cross it.

I don't mind OFSC trail rides up to about 200 miles per day, as long as the pace isn't too fast (50mph when it's safe) and there are legal spots to play in the powder along the way.

I'll be at the ONL and my camp for a couple weeks in Jan. and a couple of weeks in Feb.
I would like to find some local folks to ride with on weekdays because most of my friends can't get away as often as I can.

My first trip up is Jan.12th - 20th.
Looks like I'll stay at the Owls Nest from the 12th - 16th, then at the camp from the 16th - 20th.

If you'd like to doo some off/on trail riding in Jan. or Feb. post it here or shot me a PM and We'll try to set something up.

I've already got responses from some folks and plans are under way.
Some dates at my camp are already full.
The dates I'm at the Owls Nest, I'm 99% sure I can find room for more but the sooner you book, the better chance you have of getting a spot.

My schedule is as follows,

Jan. 12th to 16th
I'm at the Owls Nest Jan.12th to the 15th and hooking up with X-Doo from here and a guy from www.freedomsledder.com (search Owls Nest Lodge in Ontario forum.)


Jan.24th to 29th,
I'll be at the Owls Nest. Plans to meet with 3 other riders off/on trail till the27/29th. They have confirmed.


Feb.2nd - 8th or 9th,
Feb. 2nd to 5th, I'll be at the Owls Nest or my camp. No 100% commitments as to location yet but the closer to Perry Sound the better.
I have a charity ride out of Perry Sound to attend from Feb. 6th to the 8th or 9th. www.SleddersVision.com (Search "Canadian Charity Ride") All are welcome to join in and help raise money for Breast cancer.

Feb.16th to 19th,
I'll be at the Owls Nest and or my camp. No 100% commitments on location yet.

Feb.23rd to March 3rd or 8th, (3rd to 8th not confirmed)
I'll be at the Owls Nest or my camp if the snow is deep enough,(min.2-3ft on the power lines) and I have someone to ride with.
If it's not deep enough or I'm riding solo, I'll be going to Cochrane or Upper Michigan.

Hi, how are you doing....I read your post and you sound like my twin. I am 46 have been sledding since I was 18. I drive a 2005 Viper with racing clutch and factory suspension. My favorite rides are the hydro lines in between trails. Own my own company so I have flexability. Have trouble finding people to ride with. I live in Oakville but getting places no problem. Like to get out at least once a week. I am interested in The Owls Nest. How many riders are there and do you have room for more?

There is room for more at the Nest Jan. 12th to 16th.
I have a 3BR 6bed cottage booked for the above dates but may get a smaller one if I don't need it.

The rides so far are 2 or 3 sleds.

5 of the 7 riders that have shown interest are like us.
Single riders with no one to ride off trail or during the week with.

IMO 2 - 4 sleds riding off trail is a good sized group.
That said I've been in groups of 10 plus riders boon docking and had a blast.

I have not booked a cottage at the Nest on any other dates yet.
I have no commitments from anyone who needs accommodation's yet.
Like yourself they are just making contact so I expect it will take everyone a bit to think it over.

All I can suggest is come for a day or 2 and see if we click.



X-Doo and a guy from another forum that have said they will hook up for rides, live in the area and don't need accommodation's.
They both say that their are flexible with the dates and I'm hoping they will go for ride each time I'm up.

If you or anyone else, want to ride any of the dates I posted in my schedule, post a reply or PM me.

As soon as I have someone who will commit to sharing a cottage at the Nest, I'll book one for the dates.

If no one commits, then I have places I can stay and ride solo on the trails but that's kind of boring.
The Nest is my first choice for accommodation though.

I just booked a cottage at the Nest for Jan.23rd to the morning of the 27th.
It's a 3BR with 6 double beds, full kitchen, bathroom, covered porch, BBQ.

We are the only 4 that have confirmed (at this point) and need accommodation's.
I'm sure X-Doo and SnowVoyageur will try to join us if they can.

We still have 2 spots in the cottage available.


If we fill one cottage I'm sure we can get another.


If there are 3 of you going up, I could drive up with the someone.
My sleds will probably already be at the Nest but I need to bring at least one home after the weekend.
I usually drive solo and have one sled in my Van.
I'm sure we can work something out.

I have checked the schedule and have meetings on the 12th & 13th I will definitely make the ride from the 24th - 27th(28th maybe) but may leave on the 23rd. This is a definite book me in (please send me the details) Thanks!

If some needs to share the drive I'll doo it but I'd prefer to drive solo so I can drive up the 23rd after work.
Same with coming home, If I'm sharing the drive, I'll leave when ever the drive home does but I'd prefer to be the last person to leave.
Either way it's all good to me folks.

We'll be leaving London about 6:30pm on Fri. the 23rd.

K now this sounds like a group that I would like to ride with. I was planning on doing some off piste riding by mapsource at my camp at lost channel but I would certainly entertain some riding out off the Alban region. I am currently seeking snow in NL but I will be home to Ontario at the end of January. I'm riding a rev-XU 156*20*1.25 so I should be in the right group hey! Let me know if you have some interest in a one more rider. I have a komatik and could haul gas if you want to go a little further in.

I've never seen a TUV in the deep stuff but from the specs of it, I bet it goes any were you want. Doo you have the SDI or 4 stroke?

The rest of my ride schedule is still open but I think folks will come forward as the dates get closer.

I have to work the weekend, WHILE the wife is away SLEDDIN, but its my turn on the 26th.

I will be joining you at the Nest on the 23rd and have rode with Dogman and Fraz before. I have a 2005 600HO Renegade and like riding either on or off trail. Looking forward to meeting you's and riding on the awesome trails up there! Be forewarned - I always photograph stuckedness! lol

If we have a choice of cabin 8 or 9, one of them has generator backup power - can't rem which one tho.

Both cottages now have back-up power.
I think we're booked into #9 but not 100% sure.

Just thought I would get an update. Had a good time running this weekend, except for the bent handlebars and assorted other goodies.
So guess what I will be doing for the next few nights...

I thought I would see what everyone else is riding... just in case I get scared off before I get started.

Anybody know how the snow is up there?

I'm here at the Owls Nest now, dooin some trail work and I've been able to find lots of good un-groomed riding.
I broke first tracks on the C103 to Mercer Lake rd. after clearing the C106 from Noelville to Dokis.
There is about 2-3ft. off the trails and have seen very little wet spots on the lakes, creeks and beaver ponds I've rode on the past week.
There ahs been about 10 inches of fresh snow this week and they are calling for more during the week.
I didn't get to break trail to my camp due to it being so cold and getting behind on the OFSC trail work.
Hoping we can doo that as a day ride next week/end.
Glad to here your ok and damage is minimal.

Parts and stuff are on order and will be in on Thurs (hopefully) night, so I can get her all together.
New trailer will not be in on time to show it off.. ohh well, there is always next time. I will use the car hauler and get up there.
My buddy will not be joining us this time, he is going to stay home and try and finish his wife's machine... old tunnel came off last night, new (longer) tunnel and stuff to going into the Cat 660 Turbo!

Just got back from the Nest.
They have lots of snow and the ice is good.
I need to make a small repair to my sled on Sat. morning but don't worry It's ridable as it is if need be.
We'll go for a shake down ride to the bridges Sat. and see how everyone clicks. We ride at a pace that fits everyone.
