The 2009
“NorthernTel Mobility Canadian National Snowcross Championships” go February 27- March 1 at the Civic Service Stadium in Kirkland Lake. This will be the 5th consecutive year for the races which begin with action under the lights Friday night and run during the day on Saturday & Sunday. Kirkland Lake’s Snowcross track (located in a downtown three-ballfield recreation facility) has become a favorite of racers on the Canadian Snowcross Racing Association’s annual circuit through Central Canada and Upper State New York.
Accommodations around the area are extremely tight on that weekend. Kirkland Lake is a sled friendly municipality and you can ride right to the track. Day-visitors in the past have snowmobiled in from as far away as Cochrane but it makes for a
VERY long day. If you are thinking of making our snowcross a part of your sledding getaway to Districts 14 or 15, I can direct you to some local spots (all free) where you can trailer & go for the day. I even have a little spare parking area of my own with direct trail access. You can - of course - drive your minivan to the race track but it’s not nearly as much fun!
If you’ve never attended a snowcross, you’re really missing out on a whole other dimension of our sport that’s worth sampling at least once. It even gets an old guy like me stoked! The CSRA hosts spectacular events - fun and exciting to watch and virtually non-stop. Its amazingly safe for the participants considering how much time they spend in the air and how intensely competitive the circuit is.
